An amazing 500 - strong crowd turned out yesterday to attend the Women in Sport Summit, professionally presented by the Ministry Of Sport - at The Star on the Gold Coast.
We heard from real change makers in women`s sport discuss several fascinating topics ...
The rise of the Athlete Influencer, where female athletes are finding genuine revenue streams through social media activation to help fund their sporting dreams...
How digital content is now for the first time being consumed in greater numbers than television, and how revenue will go where the eyes go....
The Commercialisation of Women`s Sport and the implications on research, investment and sports technology opportunities...
We learned about game day activation and why over 40% of women don`t participate in watching live sport ....
Equitable training facilities, and how it is now the norm to provide access to equal facilities for women and men`s programs in elite sport (a subject close to the heart of COHA Group)....
We heard a lot about the struggle most athletes experience in raising funding to represent their countries, but with commercial opportunities increasing allowing athletes to be more entrepreneurial, the rise and rise of the women`s sport in general, and the wonderful work organisations like the Minerva Network, the Aussie Athlete Fund, The WattleNest and others do, the future for women in sport is brighter than ever before ... but there is more work to be done.
Congratulations the Ministry of Sport for a wonderfully insightful event.

** COHA PROJECT UPDATE **
Carbrook Golf Club located in Carbrook within Logan City Council is a members-owned golfing facility. Spanning 92 hectares of freehold land, the club features an 18-hole Championship Golf Course, a clubhouse facility, a maintenance facility with several sheds, and other areas that support its golfing operations.
Over the years, the club has faced significant challenges due to flooding events. In 2013, 2017, and twice in 2022, the nearby Logan and Albert Rivers flooded, causing substantial damage to the club`s property. To mitigate the risk of future flood events and enhance the site`s resilience, the Club secured a funding grant from the Queensland Government`s Department of Tourism and Sport (DTS), CRARRP program.
The Club engaged COHA Group to project manage the delivery of these remedial works, for various projects across the site, focusing on remediation and future flood protection.
Golf Spectrum Pty Ltd were the contractors awarded the tender and over the past few months have been hard at work undertaking course recovery works, designed by Stantec, including new cart paths across all 18 tees, stabilising the riverbanks to prevent further erosion and deterioration of the course. Works are set to conclude this September.
By implementing these projects, Carbrook Golf Club will enhance its infrastructure, improve its resilience to flooding, and ensure a better experience for its members and visitors. The funding provided by the Queensland Government`s DTS will play a crucial role in protecting the Club`s assets and maintaining its status as a premier golfing facility in the region.
COHA are thrilled to work alongside this great club and GM, Scott Wagstaff and to once again play a small part in enhancing the sports landscape in QLD.

** Empowering Women in Sports: The Play Our Way Program **
Exciting news for all sports enthusiasts and champions of gender equality! 🌟
The Australian Government has launched the Play Our Way program, a groundbreaking initiative designed to tackle the participation barriers faced by women and girls in sports and physical activity.
With a generous funding of $200 million, the program is set to run over three years, from 2024–25 to 2026–27. This initiative is not just about funding; it’s about creating local solutions that foster safe, inclusive, and sustainable sporting environments.
Local governments, community organizations, not-for-profits, and sporting organizations are encouraged to apply for grants that will help provide quality facilities, equipment, and initiatives. It’s time to level the playing field and ensure that women and girls have more equal opportunities to engage in sports for life.
Applications for the grant opportunity are open until 2 pm on 29 April 2024 (AEST). Don’t miss the chance to be a part of this transformative journey. Let’s play our way to a more inclusive and active future!

** COHA PROJECT UPDATE I URBAN CLIMB ADELAIDE **
The team at Urban Climb have delivered the best indoor climbing and bouldering venues in the country. Not only that, they create communities built around values of inclusiveness, diversity, collaboration and of course health and wellbeing - values that resonate with us at COHA Group.
COHA have loved delivering this project for the Urban Climb team as their Project Managers and Superintendents for their very first (and I`m sure not last) South Australian offering, Urban Climb Adelaide, in the middle of Adelaide`s urban (of course) centre in downtown Hindley Street.
Located within a former multi-cinema complex in the city, the end product will be amazing and we can`t wait for the locals to experience the best bouldering venue in SA.
We are on target for a June 2024 opening - so if you`re in Adelaide after June, grab your chalk, warm up your fingers and get in the "zone". Urban Climb already have six venues across Queensland and Victoria - check them out at urbanclimb.com.au.

** CONTRACTOR AWARD – KURRAWA SURF CLUB **
The Kurrawa Surf Life Saving Club is one of the most famous surf life saving beaches in Australia ............
COHA Group were engaged by the Club to project manage the proposed redevelopment of this iconic surf club. After a long a storied history, the club made the bold move of demolishing its former clubhouse back in 2017 and build a brand-new greenfield surf life saving and supporters club next door, a decision that has proven to be enormously successful. Since then, the club has been setting record patronage numbers and this success has required a further expansion of its dining area, with a new undercover external dining terrace, expanded beachside cafe, and surf lifesaving training room refurbishment to enhance what is already, the leading surf club in the country.
COHA Group are delighted to announce the appointment of Goris Co Projects who have been selected after a competitive design and construct tender. Goris Co Projects are a local Gold Coast based contractor who have demonstrated a shared passion for this project and are ready to deliver a quality outcome in time for the World Surf Life Savings Championships, that will be held in August 2024 – at none other than the world famous Kurrawa Beach.

*** PROJECT ANNOUNCEMENT ***
The crew at COHA Group have some exciting news to share!
Last week, COHA Group were selected by the Tasmanian Government as its preferred Project Manager for the design and construction of the new $70M AFL High Performance Centre in Hobart.
This recognition of COHA Group’s track record in the elite and community sports infrastructure space is humbling, and we are honoured and excited in equal parts to get started. In fact, we already have - having visited Hobart last week for a site visit and meetings.
This facility will serve as the home base for the new Tasmanian AFL Football Club, who were given the AFL`s 19th license in the middle of last year. The site at Rosny Parklands, nestled on Hobart’s eastern shore in the Clarence City Council local area, conveniently located between the airport and the city centre, was recently chosen as the preferred site.
This latest AFL High Performance Facility will again set a new benchmark for high performance facilities in Australia, and will cater to AFL, AFLW, VFL, and VFLW programs, as well as youth and academy programs.
Anticipated completion is in late 2026, with the men’s AFL team set to play their inaugural match in 2028.
COHA look forward to collaborating with the Tasmanian Government’s Department of State Growth (Tas), the AFL - Australian Football League, the Tasmanian Football Club and the myriad of stakeholders who will all help make the dream of the AFL coming to Tasmania a reality.
COHA is proud to partner with the highly respected Hobart-based Matrix Management Group Pty Ltd, which will provide valuable support to the COHA team throughout this project.
Tasmania’s passionate AFL community has waited a long time to get a local AFL team. COHA’s Paul Coory aptly describes it as “the missing tooth in the AFL Smile.”
Stay tuned for updates on this landmark sports and community infrastructure project through the COHA website.

Congratulations to COHA Group`s own Paul Coory for being elected to the Committee for Brisbane Management Committee for a two year term.
Paul joins a number of talented and motivated individuals across a broad cross section of the Brisbane business community who he can`t wait to start collaborating with over the coming two years as they help lead the discussion and encourage the implementation of a legacy that goes well beyond sport and 2032 - but creates permanent social and economic change - in this (soon to be) global city and region.

COHA Group was honoured to co-sponsor last weeks’ The Committee for Brisbane event “Queensland’s Sports Tech Industry: On the Rise”.
It has been estimated that the market size of the Australian sports tech sector was valued at approximately $4.25 billion annually and employed more than 13,000 people with growth approx 12% per annum, year-on-year, in the past decade.
The keynote speaker, the Hon Stirling Hinchliffe MP, a passionate advocate for the sports tech sector, gave a wonderfully inspiring keynote address. The Minister believes “one of our golden legacy opportunities from 2032 is developing a world-leading sports technology economy that creates jobs, investment and global trade.”
There is no reason why Queensland can`t be the world leader in the Sports Tech enterprise and build the “silicon valley of sport innovation” right here in this, the world`s newest Olympic region!
In the one of the most diverse and esteemed panel, we heard captivating insights from Kate Davies (CEO Netball Queensland & the Queensland Firebirds ), Tim Klar (CEO, QSport), Jon Shepherd (Playbk Sports) and Dr Martin Schlegel (CEO ASTN - Australian Sports Technologies Network) and superbly moderated by Professor Sarah Kelly OAM, Board Member of the Brisbane 2032 Games Organizing Committee.
The panelists touched on the diverse ways in which sports tech
will revolutionize sport in the very near future – from supporting sport at the grassroots level, bringing equity to regional and remote areas, amplifying
venue experiences, developments in fan engagement, to elite player development.
It`s an exciting space and we are on the edge of our seats to see how this sector develops and escalates in the very near future.

COHA Group would like to extend its congratulations to Aaron Gilboy and the team at Stantec (formerly Cardno) for collecting the Consultants` Award at yesterday`s UDIA Queensland Awards For Excellence, for their work on the magnificent Brighton Homes Arena project - the home of the Brisbane Lions.
As Project Managers of this award winning facility, COHA Group managed both the early enabling works project (for Ipswich City Council), and the subsequent built form project (for the Lions), working closely with Aaron and his team across all phases of both projects. The civil engineering work delivered by the Stantec team was first class - delivering real value throughout the course of a complex and highly successful project - a benchmark in High Performance, Training & Administration facilities for elite sport in Australia.
A well deserved recognition.
